Before the Leaves Fall
03:40
|
|||
Winded out of the north
My bones creak
I can't settle down
These elements of seasons
they change me somehow
I tread upon this October ground
familiar as it is
It's the memory of family
scattered by differences
I am driven to my thoughts of war and terrorism
I can't harbour these feelings alone
but here I go
a candle in a window
a woman at her table
there are just too many images
Curiosity of a man
running wild in the street
Before the Leaves Fall
How many lives will it take?
Hope sways like trees in the wind
How hard is it to choose the dog catcher?
How hard is it to choose the next leader to...
From a clear fanatic to the proud father
Questions arise that confound us
How can we love one another
with our finger on the trigger?
How can we be so naïve?
...When this matters
Curiosity of a man
running wild with his greed
Too many questions on a ballot
Hope sways like trees in the wind
How hard is it to choose the dog catcher?
How hard is it to choose the next leader?
Too much, too little, too late!
We're going to have to wait another four more years
After all...
To realize what we've done is wrong
Can't say we're sorry for what we have done
And the headlines could have read
"Stupendous Victory", again
How can we let this happen a second time
I don't know
Just take your Canadian medicine

Making Your Fortune
03:54
|
|||
She came out in September
Drove a Rent-A-Truck this far
Going to move out to the suburbs
when she gets that good, good job
This may not be her future but this was her ideal
You get called just once for those ideas...
Precious they are
Her mother told her not to
Her father said, "Go dear."
She could have been married
like her sister had been last year
In the middle of decision
the time it takes to put a sweater on
She packed up and said goodbye
I guess it says something
When you leave those things behind
When your Making Your Fortunes
Just try not to cry
I don't want to know
And I don't want to say anymore
When you deal in life
You just have to endure
I don't want to know
And I don't want to say anymore
It takes a lot of devotion
to finally open up the door
She met him in the city
He reminded her of home
They tried to get together
From opposite ends of a cell phone
In the corporate setting
things were looking pretty slim
When two things happened
She quit that's when her life began
When your Making Your Fortunes
Just try not to cry
Things turn out ok
When you think in a positive way
There's a turn to the story
and it isn't that bad
She got it all
When she gave it all she had
Now she sees him on a regular basis
Ring's in the works
Yeah, you know she might be married
When your Making Your Fortunes
Just try not to cry

Pilot Light
04:26
|

It's too bad you didn't know
The power of one good friend
Who gave it all
While you just stood and listened
All these walls we build up
Ours by design
The strives we make
they all seem like compromise
Our minds get stuck
In familiar ways
You just have to imagine
Each new day
It's November 11th
I am remembering again
Somewhere there is silence
Paid for by freedom
Maybe that is just an old cliché
But at least it's made deliberate
Because I’ve just got to say it
It needs to be said
When the Pilot Light
Goes Flickering Low
Which One of Us
Will Have the Courage
To start again?
Across these double lanes
Watched over by tall street lamps
Down Fall covered paths
You have to let go of the past
Along lonely sundowns we’ll be reaching
for this life...
Home where the heart grows a little warmer each time
No fire inside
Just thoughts of you
What we had once, seems gone for good
Back in simple days
of low student rent
Behind every mind
is one precious price we spend
Look it is nothing like
one lost dull mind
And you should never have to ever waste it

A Lot to Learn
05:06
|
|||
Turn the Light
if you think that you can't sleep
Turn the Light
if you think that you can't weep
Because you do what you say
you say what you mean
you do everything and
you love to cheat
You got a lot to learn
You got a lot to learn about me
'Atta' boy, 'atta' girl run far away
'cause they're after you with an ad campaign
Look, you've seen what they have done
they have done what they could
they tried to take you out
run you out of the words
They've got a lot to learn
They got a lot of nerve
I had dream once
you were involved
An owl swooped down
delivered my cause
Left a trail of blood in the snow
Somewhere that I can never follow
Just turn the light if you can't sleep
It's a salvation that some seek
but you are not about to give away your secrets
Listen, they said it couldn't be done
well just fuck 'em
Fire a salvo in final position
Fire salvo in the General's direction
because you've seen what they have done
They have done what they could
They tried to take you out
Run you out of this world
They've got a lot to learn
they got a lot of nerve
I will show them
If I had just one wish
what would it be?
How to give eternally
No style, wit or soul do we have
We might be as boring as parchment
Never written on before
Men who lust too much for their own good
men who lust too much for their own good
you've seen what they have done
they have done what they could
they tried to take you out
run you out of those words
like freedom...

Stormy Little Town
03:09
|
|||
People are crazy!
They race their lives away
Trying to find someplace
They think they can stay
I learned from an early age
That home is where the heart is
So, home is where I stayed
You are better off leaving well enough alone
Than trying to turn amber into gold
So, I sat up on a rock in a Stormy Little Town
I didn't know then what I know now
I sat up on a rock in every brand new town
Until the baddest cat came to knock me down
You are going to need love in a Stormy Little Town
Because it is as boring as hell and there is no one around
You are going to need love in a Stormy Little Town
The old man said get down from your perch
You're an angry young fool!
You don't have to be to proud to known that
He who pays the piper calls the tune
You shoot for the stars and aim for the moon
Wind up in bars trying to stay cool
You are going to need love in a Stormy Little Town
'Cause it is as boring as hell and there is no one around
I sat up on a rock in every brand new town
Until the baddest cat came to knock me down
My dreams were paved by Broadway and the Vaudeville show
I had to show off somewhere 'cause I had nowhere to go
If you asked me then about family and friends
They might have said the bank is about to foreclose
On every dream they ever had
You are going to need love in a Stormy Little Town
Because it is as boring as hell and I'm here to tell
You are going to need love in a Stormy Little Town

Peeping Tom
06:20
|
|||
There he stands looking in
Is he lonely again?
The coffee sure is good today
I wonder if she will look my way...
These two had never met
Only exchanged glances
They'd like to go out a little while
to find the answers...
All the dogs howl
All the cats are in heat again
There's no one on the street at this hour
When old Tom steps up to the window pane, and says
"Gosh, darn it!"
Peeping Tom
you're not wrong
I would have done the same in your position
But you were in no condition
The hours tick by
and the months go
suddenly it's fall outside
then it snows
Peeping Tom
you're not wrong
I would have done the same in your position
But you were in no condition
"Gosh, darn it"
I just need to say something!
...to begin
Then one day
Tom rode his bicycle down the street
like he always did
and the first snowflake
fell on his lip
Just then a group of kids
came around to harass him
They said, "Hey Tom!"
"We sure like your bike
He said, "Well thank you."
My mom gave it to me."
"Yeah, well we're going to take it!"
He said, "you can't do that!"
So they knocked him down
He fled...
Ran two blocks and slipped,
fell to the ground and bumped his head.
She had been watching and
luckily was taking karate classes at night
So she chased them off!
Kicked their ass and saved Tom, again...
She said," Hey Tom. Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I guess."
I just got this bump up on my head.
He was soaking wet when she dried him
He was soaking wet when she dried him
He was soaking wet when she dried him
That's how they fell...in love
She quit her job at the coffee shop that day
And they say both went away
off to Spain
C'est la vie dans la ville, n'est pas?
Peeping Tom
You're not wrong
I'd have done the same in your position
but you were in no condition

On the Move
03:37
|
|||
Now sometimes it feels
like a nightmare...
The truck comes 'round
It's 6am
The day begins, your muscles ache
those pads you strapped last night
have fallen down again
you curse the day you were hired
You've got to strive to get ahead
you've got to strive
you've gotta' strive...
Drivin' 'round on a big truck
On the Move
Three guys a packed lunch
One bad joke leads to another
You've got to strive
to keep it light
On the Move
Have you ever had this feeling
When you're mind was reeling
and the pain just comes
and washes over you?
On the Move
These days are long
The sky looks grey
I stand on strong
What a frayed day
You've got to strive to get ahead
On the Move
Have you ever had the feeling
When your mind was reeling
and the pain just comes
and washes over you?
On the Move, again
But she likes when you
just come home sweaty
and she says,
"Hey, boy...
I got a little use for you."
On the Move
What a physical life it is
being a man
Ten bucks an hour
Just doesn't seem enough
On the Move
I know this seems repetitive
But then that's the job!
You get up and you go until
You can't anymore
Have you ever had the feeling
When your mind was reeling
and the pain just comes
and washes over you?
On the Move
