Boots on the ground Everybody is talking about These Boots on the ground I got problems again What are you going to do? When you can't make a decent wage Where can you go, when you needed to be treated well? Now I know a thing about working a job When it comes to this dignity is dead! Things got so bad that I couldn't see I was a good man something happened to me (Chorus) These Boots on the Ground Everybody is talking now These Boots on the Ground Look, I've got problems again I got a call today from a boss who said You can't be late, you can't again Things got so bad I couldn't see I was a good man - something happened to me, yeah (Chorus) Boots on the Ground Everybody is talking now These Boots on the Ground I've got problems again, now Boots on the Ground Everybody is talking 'bout These Boots on the Ground Ahh, huh, yeah! (Break) If I had a dime for every time I tried to get rich But for now I’ve got this caramel macchiato With a lemon lime twist (Refrain) Boots on the Ground Everybody is talking now Boots on the Ground Here we go again! (Bridge) Good things going to happen to you on the other side I'm convinced Good things going to happen to you on the other side Bound to be better than this Just reach out and say it's going to be different! Alright (Bridge II) And It seems like all the time you plead with me Mmm, They treat you so wrong, Mmm If I hear one more belly-ache I don't know what to do Look! Things got a way of working out when you come around Boots on the Ground Everybody is talking now These Boots on the Ground I've got problems again Boots on the Ground Everybody is talking now These Boots on the Ground I've got problems again

Don’t tell me your story Don’t tell me at all Don’t tell me your story By the old liquor store I won’t say what bothers I won’t say out of pride But your bad manners and tall tales Got you in this scrape, tonight. Now and then you think things are just going swell You had to go and do something like this Saw you walking down the street I saw you …clear as day You were laughing you were smiling Doing these things that you never could with me! Don’t tell me your story Don’t tell me your lies Don’t tell me it's over By the old moonlight Solo Bridge What if we made lots of money? Wouldn’t we be like those people We made fun of… Your public persona Has taken a dip Your porch is creaking and Your ears are ringing That’s middle age, I guess Solo She used to turn over a letter Now she just touches a screen With small bird bones and a little retriever She is looking bittersweet

Oceans Come & Oceans Stay Oceans won't ever go away... If I was the captain on this sea I'd set a course for mutiny One more disaster my conscious can't bear Tonight is for the brave volunteer They rake the sand in search of eggs For all the wisdom we have ignored Mother Nature we have abhorred What a legacy! Oceans Come & Oceans Stay Oceans won't ever go away... Oceans Come & Oceans Stay Oceans won't ever... Take our problems away All they need is a little more time To finally prove themselves right Go ask your father what men have wrought What happened when the sun flared up? Such a special gift was it to sail and Feel the salty spray, the spit Oceans Come & Oceans Stay Oceans won't ever go away… Oceans Come & Oceans Stay Oceans won't ever take our problems away (They exist) Oh, I can't forsake this place Down among the sea shells The algae whispering save me Oceans Come & Oceans Stay Oceans won't ever go away...

Watch the mind go Watch the jaw slack You can’t take anymore and the world blackens Run right through Like someone close It's a dirty game with all this mudslinging Draw me near now because I need you Time to face the music We may never know the answers we sought but we feel it, deep in our hearts Fear at Eye Level... As you are Don't try anything too soon In this small conservative room You're a mumbler, a stumbler of disjointed scripted phrase Out goes wit with the coming of age A good man breaks like a choir boy’s voice Pummelled soundly, by these heckles of choice Fools can bludgeon and laggards yell! Well fed Jekyll's just out of jail I saw you struggling in the language debates The attack ads worked you senseless both night & day Watch the mind go Watch the jaw slack You can’t take anymore Of the world’s reaction Run right through Like someone close It’s a dirty game Full of half truths It’s a dirty game Turns the best away

Chinese Tree 04:32
Show yourself to the neighbors It’s your house The destiny of landlords let you down Say good night to a sound sleep Those days are gone in the heat Jot to the pub to gab with foe You never thought you could be this bold After all the choices we have made This one simply takes the cake We live by the highway Loud as it can be I can almost hear myself being a parent Late at night you can still hear the sound of wheels My baby sleeping by my side Everything is a Chinese Tree... is all Not one thing is made here anymore I just came from another Dollar Store All I can say is I can’t believe it Dispatch into the realm of the abysmal Let your thoughts run wild Hold on to every sacred symbol Until they achieve Human Rights (Chorus) (Bridge) Sometimes I forget How we got here Next to you my wife You are the woman of my dreams Lying here beside (Solo/Instrumental) Ask questions at dawn of the dean Lo the ox, hare, accused Awl the owl with all your might If the door is ajar, kick it in Everything is a Chinese Tree Not one thing is made here upon these shores I just came from another Dollar Store All I can say is I hope for safety (Interlude) For a moment we share For a life we deeply care Hear that sizzle in your ear? You look va voom ce soir!

If you take away the miles and the years in between If you take away the smiles and the lives that add meaning This stony place is where I will reside But you can call me up, I suppose Anytime you feel like These tears have dried This pen has run its course And I'm out here Just trying to stay on this good horse Why, why did you live in this lie? Stop now before we push this thing too far You're taking things for granted Which you never should in love And every time we go 'round it's like We are just spinning in the park We are going to have to face it We are Spun to the Margin Each man has his fears I know I have a few I'm coming on thirty and it's me or you Small talk has its place But not by waterfalls (They're too beautiful) In this one horse town, I swear You just can't fall You've really got to keep your head When time's a wastin' Don't want to run the risk of loosing this All the way out here Under those daylight stars This moon was burning bright With the sun not far behind Look, I thought I had seen it all From far, far away But standing in this bank line I swore I heard you say... If you take away the miles and the years in between If you take away the smiles and the lives that add so much meaning Why, why, why would you live in this lie? Stop now before we push this thing too far You're taking things for granted that you never should in love And every time we go' round, it's like We are just spinning in the dark We're going to have to face it We're Spun to the Margin

about

An emotional, debut studio EP loosed, from a singer-songwriter/guitarist with a trio of dynamic musicians. Poetic lyricism, not afraid to say something in art. Genre-busting “Neo-Folk”, driven by rough hewn vocals, sweet folk ballads laced with irony, retro r ’n’ b jazz influences meet African and reggae grooves. Spontaneous, inspired energy that is unpredictably raw. To that, add a touch of versatile acoustic guitar.

Celebrating the moment in time rather than the perfection of editing. "I like to feel moved by human beings, not machines and processors." Wood, wire and skin making sounds organic, that breathe and hearten your decisions in playing and listening. That is the point of this EP. It is a taste of what is to come and really just part of the whole experience.
Each individual musician brings something to the creative table and it gets played in context, then you move on...

Recorded in three live sessions by engineers: Pierre Armstrong, Joel Fountain & David Green; with all musicians present, this self-produced studio recording is the antithesis of heavy-handed production.

Audiences both East & West have had the pleasure to hear some of the story-telling performances which are a fixture in Stephen’s repertoire. From Halifax to Salt Spring Island to Los Angeles, King looks forward to taking a trio on the road this time to points unknown... making new friends in music along the way.
